I’ve been wanting to get out for another hike and camp at the Peak District for a while now but work and family commitments have stopped me. So I’ve cleared my diary for next weekend and it’s going to be nippy!

With daytime temperatures at a predicted -2°c in the long range weather forecast it looks like the winter gear I have is going to be put through its paces on this trip. That’s partly why I want to go, I’ve not been out in really cold weather this year since the early months at the compound we used for our voluntary camping project. The plan is for a one night wild camp on Kinder, with a steady walk from Edale and returning the following day. If the weather looks to be too windy or there are safety concerns I will be camping at Fieldhead campsite as an alternative.

I’ve got quite a bit of kit to be trying out in the cold weather, including some camera gear and camping equipment. So that will keep me busy during the time I’m not hiking. I want to make sure that all the gear I have can stand up to sub zero temperatures as I want to be heading out to the Yorkshire Dales during the winter months and I’ll also be spending some time on photography/ hiking/ camping trips after the new year. I can’t wait for next Saturday, I’ll be lugging a heavier load than usual with my thermal clothing and some extra safety gear. It should be challenging but fun too!
